PSAC Title Defense Falls Short

This weekend we traveled to Butler, PA for the PSAC conference tournament. We went into the tournament with the number one seed as we clinched the PSAC west division title last weekend. As defending champions we knew that all the teams in the tournament were gunning for us. We battled through adversity as we lost our second game of the weekend which put us in the losers bracket. We needed to win 4 games without losing to return home with the trophy. We fell short by one game and ended up with the third place position. It is now a waiting game to see if we made it into the Atlantic Region tournament scheduled for next week.Hurst Article

The West is Ours

This past weekend we took home the PSAC west division title as we beat Gannon University 3 out of 4 games. We were tied with the Knights going into the weekend series, but our offense turned out to be too strong for the pitching staff of Gannon. Winning the west side of the conferense gives us the number 1 seed going into the conferense tournament this week.

The first game for us in the tournament will be wednesday May 2nd against our conference rivals Millersville University. We lost to Millersville last spring in the Atlantic Regional final so redemption is on our mind.

PSAC In Sight

The Lakeshow baseball squad had a 3-1 record this weekend agains PSAC opponent Clarion University this weekend. This puts us in good position going into our final conference weekend agains Gannon University. We are currently in first place in the west and need to at least split our 4 game series next weekend. Practice this week will be full go with pitchers throwing bullpens and position players doing a lot of situational hitting. Those type of practices make it easier to make good decisions when the game is on the line.PSAC Baseball Website

Battle at the Rock

This weekend was a rough one for the baseball team after splitting our 4 game series against Slippery Rock University. Friday afternoon we came to swing the bats and scored 10 runs in the first inning of play. With great pitching Slippery Rock had no chance to beat us. We ended the day Friday with thirty or more hits and twenty runs in the 2 games played. On Saturday Slippery Rock came to Mercyhurst to play 2 more games to round off the weekend and they came to scrap. Our pitching staff really held us in the game and gave us a chance to score runs, but the bats fell asleep and we found it hard to produce any runs. The Rock beat us in both of the games we played saturday and they were both really emotional losses. It hurts us in the run to win the western division of the PSAC conference. We will have to focus on squaring the ball up and driving it back up the middle and going to the opposite field this week. We need to win our series this weekend as well in order to keep our playoff goals alive.
