PSAC Title Defense Falls Short

This weekend we traveled to Butler, PA for the PSAC conference tournament. We went into the tournament with the number one seed as we clinched the PSAC west division title last weekend. As defending champions we knew that all the teams in the tournament were gunning for us. We battled through adversity as we lost our second game of the weekend which put us in the losers bracket. We needed to win 4 games without losing to return home with the trophy. We fell short by one game and ended up with the third place position. It is now a waiting game to see if we made it into the Atlantic Region tournament scheduled for next week.Hurst Article

The West is Ours

This past weekend we took home the PSAC west division title as we beat Gannon University 3 out of 4 games. We were tied with the Knights going into the weekend series, but our offense turned out to be too strong for the pitching staff of Gannon. Winning the west side of the conferense gives us the number 1 seed going into the conferense tournament this week.

The first game for us in the tournament will be wednesday May 2nd against our conference rivals Millersville University. We lost to Millersville last spring in the Atlantic Regional final so redemption is on our mind.

PSAC In Sight

The Lakeshow baseball squad had a 3-1 record this weekend agains PSAC opponent Clarion University this weekend. This puts us in good position going into our final conference weekend agains Gannon University. We are currently in first place in the west and need to at least split our 4 game series next weekend. Practice this week will be full go with pitchers throwing bullpens and position players doing a lot of situational hitting. Those type of practices make it easier to make good decisions when the game is on the line.PSAC Baseball Website

Battle at the Rock

This weekend was a rough one for the baseball team after splitting our 4 game series against Slippery Rock University. Friday afternoon we came to swing the bats and scored 10 runs in the first inning of play. With great pitching Slippery Rock had no chance to beat us. We ended the day Friday with thirty or more hits and twenty runs in the 2 games played. On Saturday Slippery Rock came to Mercyhurst to play 2 more games to round off the weekend and they came to scrap. Our pitching staff really held us in the game and gave us a chance to score runs, but the bats fell asleep and we found it hard to produce any runs. The Rock beat us in both of the games we played saturday and they were both really emotional losses. It hurts us in the run to win the western division of the PSAC conference. We will have to focus on squaring the ball up and driving it back up the middle and going to the opposite field this week. We need to win our series this weekend as well in order to keep our playoff goals alive.

Practice Makes Perfect

Practice was a rough one today with the weather being a factor. We practiced a lot of live situations today to make sure our defense is ready for the powerful Slippery Rock lineup. We are gonna need our pitchers to go out there and throw a lot of strikes and put our defesne to work in order to have a chance this weekend. Our lineup has been swinging a lot this week and I think we are ready for whoever they are going to throw at us!

Defense Wins Titles

Strong pitching got us through the weekend with 3 wins agians Lockhaven Univeristy this past weekend. It was really good for the team to win this series after a hard fought weekend with IUP. Winning this series puts us in good position for the rest of the PSAC regular season. We have 3 more conference series' to round out the regular season.

Today we traveled to Avon, Ohio to play against Notre Dame college. We fought through terrible baseball weather to win this regional game and this keeps us ranked at 3rd in the region. Practice on wednesday and thursday will consist of a lot of defense in preperation for the Slippery Rock series this weekend. They have a really good line up so we have to make sure our defense is sharp.

A Lockhaven Weekend

Although the scoreboard didn't show it, the win against Notre Dame College yesterday afternoon was a huge victory for our team. We had a rocky weekend against IUP and fell a couple standings in the Regional Rankings. Winning this game against a regional opponent puts us in a good position going into the weekend series with Lockhaven University.
At practices this week we need to work alot on being more aggressive at the plate. We will be taking alot of extra swings to get ready for the weekend and the pitchers will be doing their thing to help keep us at number 3 in the Regional Rankings.

Lakeshow over IUP

The lakers won two big games this morning against the IUP Crimson Hawks. This gives us an advangtage in the PSAC going into next weekend. These two games were huge because we split with them yesterday. We needed to win both this morning to keep our hopes up in chasing down the title this year! Come out and support us this tuesday at 2:00 as we take on Notre Dame College.

The Start Of The Journey

Hello everybody and welcome to my blog! My name is Ethan Santora and I am a senior on the baseball team at Mercyhurst University. In my blog I will give you guys a little insider view of our teams challenge of defending our conference championship. This weekend marked the beginning of the Mercyhurst University baseball teams long journey back to the PSAC conference championship. We took on the Vulcans of California University of Pennsylvania. We played two really good games against them at home and ended up winning the first two games of the series. This gave the team a real boost of energy and gave us high hopes for the title race. This was quickly extinguished as we traveled to play Cal on their home turf and fell short and ended up splitting the series 2-2. The team took the losses pretty hard but we played 4 really good games and got a lot of experience with playoff type baseball, which we needed. This week our practices will be geared to get us ready for the big weekend ahead where we will take on last years conference runner-up Indiana University of Pensylvania. Stay in tuned for more post for insider access to our practices this week!
